Narrator:Welcome to 5-Minute English. In today's lesson we're going to listen to Jackie's meeting with Human Resources.

Mrs. Wallace: Welcome to the company, Jackie. Before you start, I'd like to explain your pay, benefits, and our workplace policies.

Jackie: Thank you, Mrs. Wallace. I'm excited to start my new job.

Mrs. Wallace: Your salary is $21,500 a year before tax and social security. We also offer a staff pension plan that you can join if you wish.

Jackie: That's good to know. Are there any other benefits?

Mrs. Wallace: Yes. We have a strict dress code, so you'll receive a clothing allowance. We also provide a small travel allowance because parking is limited. You can use it for the bus or, in an emergency, for a taxi.

Jackie: That sounds very helpful.

Mrs. Wallace: At the end of the year, you may receive a bonus. It depends on how well the company performs.

Jackie: Great! What are my working hours?

Mrs. Wallace: You'll work 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday. Your day starts at 9:00 a.m., and you'll usually finish around 5:30 p.m. You also have a 45-minute lunch break.

Jackie: What if I'm running late?

Mrs. Wallace: Please call Mick or Cathy before 9:00 a.m. to let them know.

Jackie: Will I ever work evenings or weekends?

Mrs. Wallace: Occasionally. If you do, you'll receive time off later instead of overtime pay.

Jackie: Will I receive any training?

Mrs. Wallace: Absolutely. Mrs. Warburton believes in professional development, so you'll attend IT training one afternoon every week.

Jackie: That's excellent. What about holidays?

Mrs. Wallace: You'll receive all public holidays plus five additional weeks of paid vacation each year. At least one week must be taken at Christmas, and two weeks during June or July. If you're sick for more than one day, you'll need a doctor's note.

Jackie: I understand.

Mrs. Wallace: Finally, we expect everyone to behave professionally. Rudeness, violence, theft, repeated lateness, or harassment based on sex or race can result in immediate dismissal.

Jackie: Thank you for explaining everything so clearly. I'll do my best to be a responsible employee.

Mrs. Wallace: Wonderful. Now let's complete the paperwork, and we'll officially welcome you to the team.
