🟢Lesson 1: Meeting People

1. Warm-Up

Look at the pictures of people meeting for the first time.
Practice these greetings with a partner:

  • Hello! (formal)
  • Hi! (informal)
  • Good morning! (Used from sunrise until 12:00 PM (noon).)
  • Good afternoon! (Used from 12:00 PM (noon) until about 5:00 PM.)
  • Good evening! (Used from about 5:00 PM onwards.)

2. Vocabulary: Titles

Mr. – for single or married men
Mrs. – for married women
Miss – for unmarried women

Practice: Match and say:

1. Mr. Rivera → a man
2. Mrs. Torres → a married woman Mr. Torres → a married man
3. Miss Perez → a single woman 

3. Dialogue: What’s your name?

Listen and repeat: A: Hi! What’s your name?
B: My name’s Ana.
A: My name’s Joe. Nice to meet you.
B: Nice to meet you too.

Use your information:

A: Hi! What’s your name?
B: My name ‘s _______. A: My name’s ______. Nice to meet you.
B: Nice to meet you too.

Greetings and Introductions

Asking a NameGiving Your NameA Polite Greeting
What’s your name? This is the most common way to ask someone for their name. It’s friendly and direct. You can use it in both formal and informal situations.
My name is… This is the standard response. You can also say “I’m…” followed by your name for a more casual response. For example, “My name’s Sarah” or “I’m John.”
Nice to meet you. After you learn each other’s names, it is polite to say this. It shows that you are happy to meet the new person. You can also say, “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

4. Grammar: The verb to be (affirmative)
