🎓 Direct vs Indirect Questions

🔵 Step 1: Direct Questions

Direct questions use inversion.

Structure:

Auxiliary + Subject + Main Verb

Examples:

  • Where is the bank?
  • What time does the class start?
  • Why did she leave?
  • Are you ready?
  • Have they finished?

Direct questions are common in:

  • Conversations with friends
  • Informal situations
  • Quick interactions

🟣 Step 2: Indirect Questions

Indirect questions are more polite and formal.

They usually begin with phrases like:

  • Could you tell me…
  • Do you know…
  • I was wondering…
  • Would you mind telling me…
  • Can you let me know…
  • I’d like to know…

🚨 The Big Grammar Change

After the intro phrase:

✅ Use subject + verb
